● Else Marie Pade plays piano [2:24]

EMP plays her first composition on piano. It was an attempt to write a score for a romantic movie. She was 19 years old and had played a minor role in the Danish resistance. In 1944 she was arrested by the German occupants and placed in jail in Århus. Between inquiries she felt the urge to scratch some notes on the walls of the cell. Later she was given pencil and proper music sheets paper for her compositions by a German officer. This video is just an excerpt of a never completed documentary about EMP. Hear also my remix of Else Marie Pade’s work ‘7 Cirkler’ (see: 1996 - 2004).

● Concrete Music

The exhibition mentioned above showed among other things a tableau of objects that represented the sound sources for Else Marie Pade’s composition ‘Symphonie Magnétophonique’ (1958). She asked me to make the front cover photograph for her first album release ‘Face It’, Dacapo 2002.

Museet for Samtidskunst in Roskilde made an exhibition about her works in 2002. Here she is holding the score for her concrete music.
